What the report is

An energy code compliance report documents that a home's insulation, windows, and air sealing meet the energy code your building department enforces. In states that adopt an IECC edition, that document is REScheck: a U.S. Department of Energy tool that compares your envelope's total heat loss against a code-minimum reference home under the UA alternative (IECC R402.1.5). A wall or ceiling that falls short of the prescriptive R-value can be offset by better windows or more insulation elsewhere.

Not every state uses REScheck. California documents envelope compliance through Title 24 (CF1R forms) and Washington through the Washington State Energy Code (see wsec.ai for that path). A handful of other states run their own paths or stretch codes in some jurisdictions. Look up your state, or send us the jurisdiction and we tell you plainly which document your permit needs.
